The Black Tower story began back in 1967 when psychedelic rock was at its height. It was a good time to launch a brand that, to this day, is synonomous with rock n’ roll. The white wine in the black bottle grew a loyal cult following. and after it was enjoyed, Black Tower would often become a centrepiece for conversation, a distinctive candle holder. As the tunes played on, the wax would fall; it was, well, groovy.

Over forty years later, the great taste still reigns, but the bottle got a makeover. She’s sexy alright.

As enthusiastic wine lovers, we don’t really need a reason to raise a glass but as Black Tower has recently redesigned their look, we thought this was a good as time as any to say cheers, but not just to the new look but what this wine stands for – in our eyes. And so, Black Tower, to recognize your longstanding connection with electrifying music, we want to toast you and the iconic women who have rocked along your side for the past four decades.

Janis Joplin
Janis, you were a wild-woman, not afraid to go against the grain and just belt it out.  Your deep husky vocals grab us from the inside and overwhelm us with complicated feelings. Moody, poetic and rough – you were truly an original.

Grace Slick
Grace, you take us down the rabbit hole. It’s a trippy journey that feels so good when we are fed up with life. Thank you.

Patti Smith
Patti, you are the godmother of punk, and that’s pretty much the coolest legacy one could hope to have.

Tina Turner
Tina, do you know how many times we have owned the karaoke stage with Proud Mary? Try as we might, we will never master your tail feather dance moves but our continuous attempt has made life more exciting. Cheers to being a grandma and still being able to shake it.

Joan Jett
Tough as nails, you penetrated a male industry and won big. When the first few riffs of “I love Rock n’ Roll” blare out, our knees buckle and all we want to do is lose it. Your bad reputation was only ever the best.

Chrissie Hynde
Try as we might, we can’t seem to get our hair to look like yours – oh, but we try. New Wave babe – no one has ever looked so hot in leather pants.

Blondie
You brought sexy to the stage and we only wish we had stumbled into a NYC nightclub back in 1979 to listen to you Call Me.

Annie Lennox
Sweet dreams are made of you. Your voice is haunting in the best possible way.

Sinead O’Connor
Although many might not consider you to be “rock” it certainly requires a tough and ballsy personality to infuse lyrics with such strong political views. You shined a light on issues that needed to be examined with the most beautiful music imaginable.

Courtney Love
When we were fifteen, you were our answer to angst. A rebel who has forged tough battles but always stayed true to your independence.

Karen O
Karen, you are pretty much the coolest artist today – in work and spirit. We have a complete girl crush on you. Your music instantly hooks us and your unique style has us forever mesmerized and in awe.

Amy Winehouse
Amy, the past few years haven’t been easy for you but don’t ever forget that your soulful rock songs are some of the best to emerge from this decade. You blew us away a few years back, and we have faith there’s more where that came from. Plus you have killer tats. Cheers Winehouse! We could cheers your name alone.

Florence and the Machine
Florence, when we are feeling down, we turn you up. Your songs are what the magic from which magical stories are born.

We could go on, but think we need to crack open another bottle. That was fun though, the best form of time travel we’ve experienced in a while. Black Tower, we hope you rock on for forty more years.
