SDTC: How’d you come up with this?

SR: I started the oatmeal project this year in March. So far I have completed ten portraits and I expect to do more when the time permits. I saw many other artists create art with food and wanted to challenge myself, so I came up with the idea to use food that I had not seen before in art form.

What is it like to work with oats as a medium?

The fun part about working with oatmeal is that they have a good grip and it’s like putting a puzzle together making sure each piece fits perfectly. Now the most difficult part was that they are so delicate and light I had to avoid breathing too hard or else the pieces of oatmeal would blow right off the table! It actually happened a few times.
