In a delicious attempt to spotlight some of the city’s most talented female chefs, Little Portugal’s Brockton General restaurant has announced plans for an exciting upcoming dinner featuring five top female pastry chefs from in and around Toronto. Cooking outside of their element, these accomplished ladies will be challenged to co-create a six course tasting menu for this notable, one-of-a-kind evening.

The chefs on the roster come from some of Toronto’s top restaurants: Christine Fancy from The Gabardine, Allison Jones from Enoteca Sociale, Chrystal Porter from ChocoSol, Tara Sachs from Parts & Labour, and Erin Schiestel from Ancaster Mill. Brockton General’s own Chef Alexandra Feswick will be hooking you up with with some sweet – literally – dessert.

The reason behind the creation of the dinner party is something I couldn’t be more all about: “I’m trying to bring light to females in the restaurant industry, mainly in kitchens because I don’t feel like there is enough credit for women in the industry. Furthermore, I don’t feel like the leadership and/or structures exist to enable women to reach their full potential,” says Chef Feswick. It’s true; we really don’t hear about the skilled women that join the culinary scene (and run that shit like it’s no. big. deal.). Having worked in a top TO restaurant throughout my university years and dated a chef for those years and a few more, I can attest to the um, somewhat testosterone-filled-and-fueled environment kitchens, um, tend to be. A night of women stepping up the plate (the one off of which you eat, get it? Har, har) to showcase their talents is a great way to display (I can’t stop) exactly what it is they can do. Plus, you’ll get to eat some amaaaazing food, so go, just go.

The dinner will have two seatings, one at 6pm and one at 9pm at Brockton General on Thursday, November 24th. Prices are $65 per person for the six course meal or $90 per person with wine pairings (not including tax or tip). Known for offering diners a unique, elegant and seasonal menu featuring the best locally sourced ingredients, Brockton is very excited to provide guests an opportunity to taste and learn about what these talented young female chefs are doing in our city.
