Little Amal, the 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee, has travelled through 13 countries, visiting 90 cities along the way, and this week she began her trek across the GTA. We are in awe of this powerful art piece that is meant to remind the world of displaced refugee children, while also offering a sense of hope. 💕🦋

‘Walk with Amal’ is part of @luminatofestival, and over the coming days, Little Amal will continue to greet Torontonians as she makes her way through Yonge-Dundas, The Bentway, Brampton, Mississauga and other neighbourhoods. Join her! Wave hello. Let your kids cheer her on, and then talk about who she is and who she represents. 💕🦋

Amal was created to inspire hope, but my goodness does she also spark wonder and joy. We couldn’t love ‘Walk with Amal’ more. Once I knew that Cassie was going to be autistic, like me, the only way I could possibly do that with any authenticity was to write my own experience as truthfully as possible, which meant allowing my brain to do exactly what it wanted to do.
