The performance almost didn’t happen, but Boston mayor Kevin White, recognizing Brown’s popularity among black and white audiences, decided that canceling it might do more harm than good. 50 years since this infamous night, Royal Stompbox, with the blessing of Brown’s estate and the film’s director David Leaf, presents this essential document of music and civil rights history in America. $12 advance tickets available online.
