The best way to get inspired for cooking up a local food feast is a stroll through the market that inhabits the park in front of Pacific Central Station every Wednesday throughout the summer, from 3 to 7pm. Full of bakery breads, seasonal produce and awesome jarred condiments and spicy sauces, peruse what Vancouver has to offer from dedicated food gurus.

Famed Italian restaurant Campagnolo puts out fresh pasta and delicious treats made by their new pastry chef, Little Qualicum Cheeseworks offers samples of all their artisan cheeses – the feta is a delicious addition to any salad and great on it’s own, and you can even buy plants to grow your own herbs or cucumbers, peppers, and more.

Why is eating locally grown or created food important? It tastes better, less packaging, it’s seasonal and in tune with mother nature, protects biodiversity, it travels less so is better for the environment, and you’re supporting local business which helps our economy, and encourages the use of local land for farming. It’s a fun Wednesday bike trip for after work or a day-off – pick up a coffee and a muffin and lounge in the park, or plan a dinner with the best and freshest ingredients. Your stomach will thank you.
