Part of Kanye West‘s charm is his cockiness. If you like his music, you take a grain of salt in his lyrics (“There’s a thousand you’s there’s only one me”). But it’s hard for even a fan to try to defend his latest stunt at the MTV Video Music Awards.

If you haven’t heard the latest celebrity gossip, let me fill you in. As Taylor Swift was accepting her award for Best Female Video, Kanye jumped up on stage and interrupted her speech, saying, “Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!” WTF?

I have to admit that part of me was at first amused, because he said what I was thinking; most people would agree that Beyonce did have the better video. But then, watching Taylor Swift stand there on stage, looking like she felt like Carrie at the prom drenched in pigs blood, my heart broke. What compelled the arrogant Kanye to ruin this nice teenaged girl’s moment?

Does he really think that his opinion was so important that it had to be heard on that very moment? Couldn’t he just take to his blog after the show, instead of jumping up on stage like a godddamn crazy person? Was he drunk or just high on his own self-importance? Is dude that in love with Beyonce?

Kanye has a history of bad behaviour at awards shows: he stormed out of the American Music Awards in 2004 after failing to win the Best New Artist award, and did the same thing again at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2006. Does he just take these competitions too seriously? I mean, who cares what MTV thinks anyway?

Kanye took to his blog today to apologize, and it seems pretty heartfelt. He wrote: “I feel like Ben Stiller in Meet the Parents when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave… That was Taylor’s moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry.”
