One of Canada’s most successful fashion designers, Pink Tartan, hit the runway thirty minutes late to a room dangerously over capacity. That’s fashion week for ya! Opening with a banging Beth Ditto tune, a battalion of pea coats marched down the runway in an army-inspired collection with punches of fuchsia and purple among the olive greens. The haute-utilitarian, heavily-pocketed dresses and shirts contrasted with puffy tulle skirts, grey army-print gowns, and overall satin sheen. With oversized scarves and knee-high combat boots, the collection stood out, though Pink Tartan will always be retail-friendly. Pink Tartan delivered a highly commercial collection that will be a safe – and guaranteed – sell for fall 2011.
