Have you ever wondered, while on a casual scroll through your Instagram feed, why some people just seem better at social media than others? Ever guessed what it takes to get followings in the tens of thousands and that perfect avocado toast shot from above? Lucky for you, these things can be learned – and who better to teach them than the brains behind some of the city’s best creative ventures: Alyssa Garrison of Random Acts of Pastel and Paige Boersma of Studio Bicyclette?

Grab a ticket and come down to Convey on Queen St. this Sunday (November 13) at 9:00 AM sharp to learn more about the ins and outs of brand building in an increasingly connected age.

Sharpen your pencils and stack your notepads because social media class is in session! You’ll definitely want to throw a charger in your bag because the two have cooked up a hands-on styling session complete with backdrops, props and Insta-specific photography tips.

This isn’t your boring undergrad elective – the workshop covers branding, styling and storytelling, an overview of the major social platforms and a deep dive into Instagram. What else is on the docket? The pair will discuss how to create and optimize content (including sizing guidelines) for each platform, the process of styling images and taking photos (including editing and captioning), their signature tools and tricks, and how they use social media to tell stories and build their brands.

This isn’t a one-way street either. Garrison and Boersma invite questions and aim for a collaborative environment with lots of discussion, and they’re offering themselves up for one-on-one attention as well.

Plenty of emerging Toronto makers are offering goodies to make the whole experience even more magical. There will be breakfast treats from Burger Pawty, tea from Teapigs, fresh flowers from Wild North (which of course will also double as styling props!) and of course epic gift bags. Expect lots of fun surprises like Richer Poorer socks, pens and notebooks from The Paper Place, Fancy Pufs cotton candy, goodies from Cake Beauty, I Love Puffy Love Marshmallows, Nude Bee Honey, Rousehound Apparel and Thimblepress flashcards (just to name a few!) — all tucked into the duo’s favourite peekaboo Ban.do totes, of course!
