We’ve heard of infusing vodka with vanilla and strawberries, but this is a slightly sexier proposition: infuse your tequila with jalapenos, and spice up whatever you’re sipping on for the long weekend. We scoured the internets and found some tips on how to make a supremely spicy margarita. That got us thinking, and we decided to try our own hair of the dog version, She Does The City’s Jalapeno-infused Tequila Bloody Marys.

As a vegetarian, I stare longingly at the slightly spicier, slightly kickier cousin of my typical morning cocktail (should I be worried that I have a typical morning cocktail?). I think this new invention is going to be a quick way to get over my Caesar envy.

For tips on how to infuse your tequila (it’s extremely easy, and takes about a day, depending on how spicy you want it), head over to eat make read. Simply slice up your jalapenos, throw them in the tequila, and store in a mason jar in a dark place for 24 hours.

Kate Malay from A Party of One provides this excellent recipe for the spicy margaritas. She also offers a quick recipe adjustment to transform your margaritas into Mexican Martinis.

And now, our crowning glory. We transformed this recipe from Epicurious to give it a little more kick, eliminating the Tabasco and replacing it with our revved-up tequila. It’s a work in progress, and we’re still experimenting, but we’re loving the results so far.

1 jigger (1/2 ounces) Jalapeno-infused tequila
1/2 cup tomato juice
1 lime, squeezed
1/8 teaspoon celery salt
Worcestershire sauce, to taste

Garnish: 1 celery rib and 1 lime wedge

Happy long weekend!
