7:30 pm “Maximum Recreation” Opening Reception @ Weird Things, 998 Bathurst St. A new series of graphite drawings on cotton paper by James Hewitt. Each work is a depiction of fauna and flora in cohesion as an allegory to the sublime, unimaginable, and severe. The work aims to cause discomfort through beauty to enact an inner sensual dissonance. 8 pm PULP: Paper Art Party @ Geary Lane, 360 Geary Ave. Ever partied in a room full of paper? PULP is an evening combining reclaimed materials installation art, live music, dancing, and charity. A fundraiser designed to examine the current life cycle of paper materials (among others) and investigate alternative uses. $20 advance tickets ($15 for students) available online, with proceeds going to the Evergreen Center at The Yonge Street Mission, a drop-in center for at-risk street youth.

10 pm Heroes: Bowie vs. Prince Video Dance Party @ Velvet Underground, 508 Queen St. W. 2016 was a brutal year for taking away our musical heroes. This party is to honour all of them, but with a special focus on David Bowie and Prince. DJ Lazarus on the decks. $10.
