This Friday, December 12, Planet Kid’s holiday pop-up (16 Roncesvalles Avenue) will feature pieces from Woodwater, a design company run by two sisters who have always shared the impulse “to design and make meaningful things with quality craftsmanship and materials.”

Using reclaimed woolens, they create pants, hoods and sweaters with a low environmental foodprint, that suit either gender.

She Does the City spoke with Woodwater co-founder Holly Boileau.

SDTC: What offerings do you have for little ones at this year’s holiday pop-up?
HB: Unique children’s woolens. One of a kind pants and sweaters that are beautiful and versatile and comfortable. And an extraordinary winter hood that is stylish and practical. It keeps head chest and neck warm so kids can play outside all day!

How has having kids enhanced your creativity?
Having children has enhanced us as people, so that in turn has expanded our creativity. They have taught us to be more determined and dedicated and have ultimately been our inspiration to make quality and meaningful things for them.

When do you find time to design/make your clothes?
Finding time for creating and making happens easily for us, it’s truly what drives us. Often we’ve found ourselves in production on a friday night with a house full of friends over. Finding time for the administrative tasks is what is truly challenging.

What do you love most about your collection?
We love using wool. For its benefits and beauty. We love that the clothes are timeless and versatile. They are cozy and comfortable for playing home or at the park and super stylish for dressy occasions. Using reclaimed knits makes every item one of a kind, every different pattern and colour combination really gives a certain ‘character’ to each pair and we love how people connect with that.

Tell us about a favourite holiday tradition in your family.
Setting up Santa gifts is HUGE in our family. As children we could hardly wait to see what magic Santa had left for us. Everything was set up and ready to be played with. That guy really had a knack for presentation. Now we have such a special time with that job for our kids.

What are you most looking forward to this season?
Iceskating and the comfort of a little downtime after Christmas with our loved ones.

What snack will you be leaving out for Santa?
I suppose a big bowl of Pho would be nice!
