This Saturday, experience a brief audio stint back in time and frug out to some classic dancey disco tunes and newer hip hop jams, unexpected mash-ups and banging beats all on wax. A lil Wu Tang? The original electronic music known as Moog? A lil rare Scandinavian disco? What about 90’s French Disco, Haitian Voodoo Drumming and Syrian Dancehall? Yup.

Proud to be SDTC’s own Street Style  snapper, I’m also getting passionate about parties with my new series Becca Lemire Presents. Lately I’ve been wrangling the bestest new DJ duo Taiza and their vinyl collection.  This Saturday April 30th, DJ (and love) duo Taiza, and me and my trusty camera, will take over Margret.

At 2952 Dundas West in the Junction, Margret is a nightlife oasis in a slowly gentrifying yet still residential and authentically artsy neighbourhood. Everyone is welcome, but if you reside north of Bloor and west of Dufferin this is totally your jam.

One half of Taiza (the Liza and female half) is a theatrical makeup artist, so it was only natural to incorporate this art form into a performance aspect of their DJing. Partygoers have been wowed by the colourful full-face makeup designs painted on hers and partner-in-crime Tai’s mugs each time. For each party they dream up the designs together, incorporating outfits as an important element, and take inspiration from studying the makeup of the Cantonese Opera, tribes in Omo Valley in Uganda, and the Balinese among others.

Becca Lemire Presents: Taiza this Saturday, April 30th, 10pm-2am, at Margret 2952 Dundas West, No Cover
