I was never a graceful dancer. My ballet classes usually consisted of me pirouetting into everyone else in as scenes from Center Stage played in my head. As far as my imagination was concerned, I was destined for glory. It’s for the best that I have nothing to do with the Museum Dances happening this May at the Royal Ontario Museum – what, with the ample priceless objects I can crash into.

Instead, to celebrate Asian Heritage Month, the ROM has organized two weekends of contemporary dance inspired by ancient artifacts.

On the weekends of May 7th and May 14th performances will happen at 7 p.m. on Fridays and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and will include a guide bringing audience members throughout the spaces in the ROM to see the inspirational artifacts and the dancers’ interpretation.

I had a special sneak peak of The Floor Assassins Militia or Future Art Movement or F.A.M. for short. This B-boy crew showed off their best break/martial arts hybrid moves, inspired by samurai artifacts of Japan. Moving so fast it was hard to catch them, here are some snapshots.
