I missed my first day of boot camp. I was on deadline, and when my friend stopped by to drop off a healthy supper of take-out falafel (eee), he looked at me with a disappointed-mom glare. “I knew you’d never make it,” he said, shaking his head. But the joke’s on him! Why? Because tonight I attended my first Fit Chicks bootcamp session, flanked by my two lovely roommates. We have decided it’s time to work on our fitness, and we’re in need of a little motivation. That’s where Fit Chicks comes in. Not only do the classes have a great, fun vibe-but they understand if you have to miss a class for apocalyptic procrastination ass-saving, and they’ll let you make it up at another session during the week. And so begins, yoga mats and 4 pound weights in hand, our journey to a healthy life style.

Fit Chicks has the kind of program where even a seriously cynical, organized-fun-hating person like myself can enjoy an hour of getting fit. The class is fast-paced, switching up exercises every minute or so. You’re running, and then you’re skipping, and then you’re stretching, and then you’re crunching, and then you’re squatting, and before you know it you’re running again, and sweating profusely, and feeling as warm and limber as a yogi, and you barely even realized you were working out. The music and fast pace keeps you pumped, and the no-vibe attitude makes you feel welcome and capable. We came home from our session sweaty and grinning, cooked up a big meal, and spent the rest of the night lounging in our living room, basking in a pro-active glow. Needless to say, we’re pretty stoked for next week.
