For the past five years, local hipsters (sorry, I know that’s a forbidden term now) Fritz Helder and the Phantoms have been a force to reckon with. The electro-pop act has graced the very best of Toronto clubs and parties and are synonymous with, in the words of Tyra Banks, being FIERCE when it comes to fashion. Always an inspiration, we only wish rhinestone face masks made for appropriate office wear. But alas, all good things must come to an end and the band has announced that they will soon be going their separate ways.

Next Tuesday marks their final gig and, naturally, the band is going out in style with the ultimate goodbye party. Special guests abound, live video-art installations, DJ sets by the House of Helder and the XX and a sneak peak at new material from Fritz’s upcoming solo album.

Aww shit. In twenty years we will be in our mid-forties, probably watching them on stage – unified for a special Luminato show. We shall bump into people we used to fuck and remember the good ol’ days when we were young, fashionable, high – and a part of such a cool scene. Fritz Helder and the Phantoms – here’s to making this city more fun, we’ll miss ya.
