Lessons in Photography, an exciting exhibition that opens this Thursday, May 9, dissects the physical and ideological practise of photography. Curated by Andrea Leigh Pelletier and her organization Laid Bare, the work features collage, video, and sculpture that questions and explores representation in photography.

Drawing from things like videos, instructional books, and manuals, up-and-coming artists Jackson Klie and Michelle O’Byrne created layered, multimedia works that resemble their old incarnations while at the same time forming new meanings and associations. Re-examine. Stare harder. Look again.

The opening reception is May 9 from 6pm to 10pm. There will be an artist/curator talk at the gallery on May 11 at 2pm, and a discussion panel called New Modes of Image Making on May 18 at 2pm, also at the gallery. Part of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, Lessons in Photography runs at the Beaver Hall Gallery (29 McCaul St.) until May 28.
