I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Eddie Maleterre, Official Makeup Artist for L’Oréal Paris, while pretending I was Garance Doré sitting in a beautiful café in Paris, sipping on a café au lait and musing over spring/summer 2009 make-up trends.

Aside from being devastatingly charming with his classic French accent, Eddie is also the Artistic Director of Fashion Week in Toronto and the Beauty Expert on Project Runway Canada.  If there is anyone who can school you on how to apply liquid liner or when to wear red lipstick – it’s this man.

Et Voilà, here is a snapshot of our lovely conversation for some inspiration on how to put your best face forward this season.  Bisou!

What is the biggest make-up trend in Paris right now?

– A bright colour eye shadow on the center of the eyelid, strong shadow contour on lids

– Charcoal black crayon lining

– African inspiration – lots of coral colours

– Straight, strong brows

– Ultra glossy hot pink lips

– Red lips are ALWAYS fashionable

What’s your make-up philosophy?

– Make-up is not permanent so PLAY with different looks and don’t be afraid to experiment with colour

– Be original, do the unexpected

– Treat make-up as “magic on your face” (note to SDTC readers: Best phrase EVER)

What are the three essential make-up items every girl should have?

– Concealer

– Mascara – drama, drama, drama

– Lip gloss

Where can SDTC readers go for more information or inspiration?
