Montreal Hit List: Cool Fest XII.II, Bike-In, The Layover, Sunfields & more!

WEDNESDAY JUNE 20

10pm. The Layover: Tokyo Wednesdays @ Tokyo Bar, 3709 St-Laurent. There’s only one remedy for these steamy Montreal nights: multiple bevies on the terrace at Tokyo, one of the best outdoor spaces on St-Laurent. The Layover, every Wednesday at Tokyo, is hosted by D L Jones. Till 3am.

THURSDAY JUNE 21

2pm. Bike-in 2012: The Psychedelic Classroom @ McAuslan Patio, 5080 St-Ambroise St (behind the brewery). POP Montreal’s annual fundraiser for Film POP will be a celebration of the 1970s-era 16mm classroom film (think Troy McClure’s educational videos on The Simpsons). Films include: “Shake Hands with Danger” (1970), warning against playing on construction sites; “The Devil’s Toy” (1966), on skateboarding; “Joyride: An Auto Theft” (1976) (self-explanatory); and my personal favourite, “The Mysterious Message” (1982) about the horrors of bad handwriting. The event is FREE, and goes until midnight.

5pm. Vernissage Sans Titre (l’Entre Deux) @ Galerie D’Este, 1329 Greene Ave. Westmount art gallery Galerie D’Este presents an exhibit featuring the work of 13 emerging artists from Concordia University. Artists are David Bellemare, Michèle F. Bérard, Simone Blain, Louis-Pierre Boivin, Matthieu Bouchard, Félipe Goulet Letarte, Sacha Lightbound, Aurelien Monsarrat Chanon, Sophie Murphy, Katerina Pansera, Didier-Atila Pierre-Bélanger, Laura Rokas and Jenny Schade.

8pm. Destroyer + Sandro Perri @ Rialto, 5723 Avenue du Parc. Vancouver’s Destroyer and Sandro Perri play the Rialto. $20.
