Citywide exhibition theme Extreme Paintingbridges 16 commercial galleries with tons of shows all summer long. This week, Galerie PUSH presents the opening of Patrick Lundeen’s new work, Mad Masks Beyond the Vendome. The exhibition ranges from large-scale custom canvas masks, small works on paper to a video work featuring Liberace.

Extreme Painting is also lending its extremeness to Summertime in Paris, Parisian Laundry‘s annual summer exhibition. The exhibition brings together six national and international contemporary artists focusing paint in 2 and 3D. Alongside this survey will be a showcase of recent acquisitions from the Tedeschi Collection featuring an international selection of contemporary artists.

Courts métrages québécois 8 & 9 @ Imperial Theatre 
On Saturday, Fantasia will present 2 collections of short films made right here in Quebec, as part of Courts métrages québécois, a festival-long series. Films are shown in French or English, some with subtitles, some without. Check out descriptions for #8 and #9, and take your pick!

Free Screening of J’ai tué ma mere @ Théâtre de Verdure/ Parc Lafontaine
If you haven’t yet seen J’ai tué ma mere, now’s your chance to watch it for free, under the welcoming foliage of Parc Lafontaine. Starring, written and directed by local wunderkind Xavier Dolan, the movie earned dozens of international accolades, including 3 at Cannes. The original French version will be presented (no English subtitles).
