The haven of kitsch first opened its doors on Queen West, next to the mothership – then the General Store turned fancy and moved into Rosedale. Now there’s a third location for all you King West condo dwellers located on the west side of Bathurst, just south of King. Always our go-to for last minute housewarming and clever birthday gifts that undoubtedly receive gushing ‘ooh’s, ahhh’s’ or smiles that question, “cool, what’s this?” The Drake General Store is a super fun shopping experience that conjures up nostalgic memories while also introducing us to cool contemporary design. Plus we can find sassy treasures like the Bona Drag heart necklace that permanently adorns our clavicle, with the words “Sweet Tits” softly scripted. (And that’s not even the naughtiest one.)

The new location boasts more home décor as well as the Shared T-shirt clothing line known for it’s eco-friendly softy soft tees. Check out Italian goods by Seletti, Canadian industrial design favourites by Imm Living, porcelain finds from Quebec’s Hugo Didier, Toujours Toi jewellery from Brooklyn, Generic Surplus shoes, swimwear by Insight and a great selection of cooking and design books. Plus, we love the way the store looks; the floor is a series of glossy torn maps and the walls are packed with curious things that arouse wonder and smiles.
