Nicki’s Favorite Things…

1. Grandpa’s watch: The only thing i have left from my Grandpa Borland. It never has nor ever will work which is essential to how much i love it. I wear it everyday and it matches everything.

2. Spice Girls Snapshot: I don’t think much of explanation is needed. An entertainment extravaganza consisting of British invasion, 90’s pop, Spice Girls crew necks, Bootlegger khakis, put on by three best friends singing into knives. Epitome of favourite.

3. Fragonard book: My-favourite-eighteenth-century-Rococo-painter, Jean Honore Fragonard. My sister rummaged through piles of decrepit paper at Attic Books to find me this for Christmas. I love it.

4. Minnie Ears: These commemorate one of the best days of my life: my first time at Disney World. It was decided that so long as we were at Disney, we were eight years old and i don’t think it would have been quite as magical if the ears weren’t present. I was 19.

5. The colour pink: It’s a wonderful colour. Not necessarily things that are coloured pink but the colour itself, i love it, it’s my fave.

6. Little Nicki (the doulton): Each of my sisters and i have a figurine that my parents bought us. Ever since i was little i thought she was the image of perfection.

7. Teddy Bear: He’s the one thing I’ve had since i was born. He used to look like a bear who was yawning which caused me great problems in choosing a name, Cork or Sleepy? I never decided and simply alternated ever since. It doesn’t matter now cause he doesn’t even look like a bear anymore thanks to the many generations of hungry puppies.

8. Detourn Painting: My favourite painting I’ve ever done. The best part was, it wasn’t planned, it just happened, the way it should be.

9. MJ Records: Christmas Day 2002, during the height of my all-things-MJ obsession my Nanny found both Off the Wall and Thriller to give me. However, there was a catch: I could have them only after moon-walking for the whole family. Evidently, i did so and they ended up being the best present she ever gave me.

10. The Pink Bike: This isn’t actually mine but aside from being the most aesthetically pleasing piece of machinery ever, it’s also the best find I’ve ever made at a thrift store and my favourite present I’ve ever given to someone. My little sister’s reaction on Christmas morning….priceless, well actually, only cost 10 dollars.

11. Bunsen (chocolate lab): The most wonderful being you will ever meet. He likes to wear scarves and makes my day. Calling him ‘favourite’ is simply not enough.
