The music that comes out of Iceland is so different than anywhere in the world, why do you think this is?

I think it´s mostly because of how few we are, only 300,000. All the musicians know each other and that´s way we are forced to find our own thing. It would be really embarrassing if someone had the same kind of wipe as Sigur Ros, if they´d release an album chances are that later in the week he´d run into some of the members of Sigur Ros and they would have heard the album, which would be weird. But in bigger places it could work, say for exemple Radiohead, they did their thing and then a week later we had 4,000 bands exactly like them.

Do you identify with being a viking?

Sure, I like to party just like they did and I have a very bad sense of humour, just like they did.

What are your favourite spots in Reykjavik?

The harbour. I love the smell of sea, I love the fresh air. There are also many public swimming pools in Reykjavik. It´s a like a big spa-town – great!

Who would say are your strongest musical influences are? Growing up and now?

Then and now, it´s definetly Jimi Hendrix, Tom Waits, Aphex Twin, Björk, Elvis, Motown, Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan.

Does the amount of light – or lack thereof – over the course of the year affect your creativity?

I love the darkness and I love the long nights. During winter,  we only get 4 hours of daylight where I live. That´s the time when I´m in channeling.

Can you describe the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival to us in your own words? How/why has it gained so much popularity?

It´s a great weekend, there is music coming out of every house in Reykjavik! Young bands, established bands, and some up-and-coming international bands – it´s a great melting-pot. It’s one of those things that´s hard to describe, you kind of have to experience it.

You told me your music is "schizophrenic" can you elaborate? ’cause that’s an interesting adjective.

I´ve got a very short attention span. I need to be amazed all the time. When I’m making music I get very frustrated if a song I´m working on sounds or feels similar to something else I´ve done. That way some of my songs are similar to Elvis ballads, and some are closer to Sepultura; some could be Whitney Houston and some Kraftverk. I think the blues is king of the read line in my work, but I melt it into all these other things, which makes it schizophrenic.
