This just dropped: a unique perspective of life in Nunavut, as seen through the eyes of Inuit youth.

“Taught By The Best”–written and recorded by the students of Maani Ulujuk Ilinniarvik School in Rankin Inlet–is featured on the upcoming album, Four Directions Vol. 1. The album is the result of a collaborative project between community elders, youth and the not-for-profit Darkspark; and it involved songwriting lessons, collaborative group writing and recording with a professional music producer. “Taught By The Best” features the students singing about life on the land, learning traditional ways, and expressing gratitude toward their elders.

Maya Hidalgo and Jaidyn Verbeek with elder.

Four Directions elevates the voices and perspectives of Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth nationally, which contributes to an important cross-cultural conversation across Canada. Learn more about the project here.

Stay tuned for the full album to drop on Dec. 6th.
