If the weather stays overcast this weekend, the hamburger buns may get a bit soggy, so maybe you should gather your friends and stay dry at Box Studios (1622 Franklin Street) and the Franklin Room (1612 Franklin Street) where the fundraiser and art event ‘Dirty Pop’ is happening this Saturday at 9 pm. Entry is free before 10, and is otherwise only 8 bucks with proceeds going to the Intermediate Remedial Program in the Strathcona.

The program helps youth suffering from neglect and abuse deal with their behavioural issues through art based therapy workshops. The idea is to give them a sense of self and purpose through creative expression and the use of a variety of art mediums.

Besides the showcasing of great pieces by dozens of local artists (http://dirtypopaugust21.weebly.com/artists.html) down for the cause, a selected 9 artists were given blank canvases to produce a series specifically for the event which will be auctioned off during the evening. You can scope out what the came up with here (http://dirtypopaugust21.weebly.com/the-box-set.html) and buy for the cause (as well as the fact they will look badass in your apartment).

There will be live music by Chris Casillan and tracks managed by DJ Nutty Paws to help your ears balance the visual pleasure. Come out and show some local support for a good cause and enjoy an evening filled with creativity and artistic inspiration!
