Did you know that women aged 15-24 years are most at risk of experiencing violence?

In addition, Indigenous women are three times more likely to experience violence than non-Indigenous women. Women with disabilities are twice as likely to report severe physical violence and three times as likely to be forced into sexual activity. People self-identifying as homosexual or bisexual are three times more likely than heterosexuals to be victims of violence. Transgender people are almost twice as likely to report experiencing intimate partner violence.

These harrowing facts make it all the more apparent that we need a national strategy to combat this devastating problem. Experiencing violence has far-reaching health and social impacts on the lives of individuals, families, communities and Canadian society as a whole.

The Minister of Status of Women has been mandated “to work with experts and advocates to develop and implement a federal strategy against gender-based violence.” In order to develop this strategy, the Minister is seeking out the opinions of women, trans, 2S, & non-binary folks in order to move discussion to the next level.

Now you can provide input via this online survey. It only takes a few minutes, and you can be instrumental in helping to develop a better future for women across Canada.
