Toronto just got a little less sexy. We’ve been Toronto just got a little less sexy. We’ve been big fans of @fortnightlabel since the company first launched in 2010. Founder @criremenyi recently announced that after 13 years, her lingerie label would close indefinitely, so that she could focus on family. While we are sad to see Fortnight go, we totally respect her decision, and are thankful for her contributions to Canadian fashion, and commitment to sustainable design. Beyond the gorgeous pieces, we loved how @fortnightlabel always featured local woman as models, but also used their platform to spotlight their particular work, passions, and endeavours. If you are looking for something pretty for Valentine’s Day 💕, or beyond, you have a few final days to shop their collection.

Thank you, @fortnightlabel! And thank you, Christina. You will be missed. ❤️❤️❤️Enjoy the time with your sweet baby. Xxo All of us at @shedoesthecity.

Critically-acclaimed suspense drama Alice, Darling Critically-acclaimed suspense drama Alice, Darling, from Toronto-based production company @babenationfilms is now playing in select theatres and available on vod too.
.
.
The film tells the story of a woman, Alice (@annakendrick47), pushed to the breaking point by her psychologically abusive boyfriend, Simon (Charlie Carrick). While on vacation with two close girlfriends, Alice rediscovers the essence of herself and gains some much-needed perspective. Slowly, she starts to fray the cords of codependency that bind her. But Simon’s vengeance is as inevitable as it is shattering – and, once unleashed, it tests Alice’s strength, her courage, and the bonds of her deep-rooted friendships.

“Alice, Darling is a subtle, nuanced story about coercion and control,” explains Director @marynighy. “As a director, I couldn’t wish for a better cast of talented actors and creatives to bring this important story to life. The chemistry between Anna Kendrick, Wunmi Mosaku, and Kaniehtiio Horn as three friends is a joy to see.”
.
.

Many are calling Anna Kendrick’s riveting performance her best yet. @kaniehtiio and @wunmimosaku are also incredible in their supporting roles as Alice’s friends.
.
.
Alice, Darling was shot for 20 days on location in Toronto and in Clear Lake, Ontario. Beyond the gripping material and knockout performances, Toronto audiences will have fun spotting different locations and venues featured in the film. More than anything, this film will act as a catalyst for important conversations about abusive relationships and the value of close friends.

Erin’s Guide to Kissing Girls is a heartfelt que Erin’s Guide to Kissing Girls is a heartfelt queer coming-of-age comedy that will speak to your inner tween — and your inner nerd. ✨🌈💥

Erin is a confident, comics-obsessed 13-year-old, navigating crushes and friendships as the only out kid in her class.

It’s the film that director Julianna Notten wishes she had seen growing up. Films like this, with authentic representation, can have a tremendous impact for the young queer people watching.

“When queer women tell their own stories on screen, everyone stands to benefit.” 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

🎬Alison Duke and Ngardy Conteh George are the c 🎬Alison Duke and Ngardy Conteh George are the creative heavyweights behind Toronto’s women-led Black-owned production house @oyamediagroup. Veterans in the field, they’ve been at the helm of several groundbreaking projects, including the Canadian Screen Award-winning documentary ‘Mr. Jane and Finch’ and ‘Being Black in Toronto’, with several big titles primed for release in 2023.
.
.
Wanting to pay it forward, Duke and George founded the non-profit @oyablackarts (OBAC) to empower Black creatives with the skills, support and resources necessary to succeed within Canada’s film and entertainment industry. OBAC addresses systemic inequalities through mentorship, networking, industry training and by providing safe spaces for experimentation.

“After 20+ years focused on social issues documentaries, we are now taking the issues and themes that we’ve discovered, and applying them to a variety of original scripted and unscripted content with global reach.” 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️
.
.
Their contributions to Canadian film and TV are immeasurable. We connected with Duke and George to ask them about their work to support emerging Black creatives, and where the focus needs to be today. 🔗 Link in bio to read full piece.
