Nuit Blanche piece: The Lost and Found Forest.

1. What inspired your contribution to Nuit Blanche this year?

We really wanted to be a part of this amazing night and create an experience that is completely unique for viewers.

“The Lost and Found Forest” is about our creativity as humans to cope with loss, in this case of forests, and what we can come up with as a solution to preserve and pass down our memories of it.

“We don’t have a forest inside our city, but we still want to experience one, what do we do? Let’s build one out of the materials and resources that we have. Let’s create a replication based on what our memory of a forest looked like, felt like, sounded like.”

2. What do you hope people will experience when they see it-feel, think, do?

The piece will be reminiscent of what viewers have experienced when walking through a forest; familiar but artificial. We want viewers to think about and question the personal relationship that they have with nature, and that younger and future generations will have with it. There are kids who have never walked through a forest, haven’t seen a sky full of stars, how will this alter our future society.

3. Nuit Blanche aside, what’s the most amazing, surreal 3 am experience you’ve ever had?

Working painting, drawing, etc. into the wee hours definitely puts you into a different zone. Your body goes on autopilot and your mind wanders into new places. There’s no telling what you might create.

4. Where will you be at dawn on Sunday?

Nothing’s better than a forest at dawn. One last look before we have to take it down.

5. You’ve got $100,000 to spend on throwing your ideal art event-what do you do?

Two words: “Jour Noir”
