6 pm “Accidental Archives” & “Zagga Zow” Opening Receptions @ Cooper Cole Gallery, 1161 Dundas St. W. “Accidental Archives” is a new body of work by Canadian photographer and York University graduate Sara Cwynar, whose work has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, 01 Magazine, and Bad Day Magazine. “Zagga Zow” is a 1st annual summer group show. Opening reception will feature the musical stylings of DJ Michelle Williams and a live performance by GYM Zsahib. Until 10 pm. Exhibitions run until August 18th.

7 pm “Treasure Islands” Opening Reception @ DAT Salon, 442 Dufferin St., Unit E. “Treasure Islands is a new series of charcoal drawings on paper by James Hewitt. The series of chubby nudes is an ode to Édouard Manet’s Olympia, o/c 1863. All subjects have been sourced from pornographic scenes shared with a male partner. The male has been subtracted from the scene and those women found in photographs or videos on their backs, sides or knees have been rearranged in an upright position, transforming their physical stance from one of submission to empowerment.” Hors d’oeuvres courtesy of Vert Catering. Essentially, it’s Art Battle with only one rule – in the last two minutes, you’re not allowed to touch your opponent’s canvas. Matches are 8 minutes long, so in the first 6 minutes anything goes. Do the painters get paint on each other? Count on it. Do canvases sometimes get sorta totally smashed? Most definitely. Do they dance? You bet your hot summer night they do!
