To quote Closing Time by Semisonic “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end” – a fitting line for The Hach, a quirky new boutique that has moved into the former Blim space on 17th Ave off Main Street.
The creation of a former Communication Design student and designer for the likes of Obakki, The Hach (pronounced ‘Hawk,’ FYI) is Tara Hach’s leap into the fashion industry. The decision to realize the dream and get creative recognition where it is due takes courage and a drive that not all artists possess. Fortunately for the Mount Pleasant community, Tara has both.
Montreal, Edmonton, Tokyo, and Seoul take form as patterns, hanging in the shop window next to Vietnamese lanterns and other interesting accessories. Vintage kimonos imported from Japan juxatapose the modern items from local and international designers hand selected by Tara.
Her edits filter beyond agreeing with current trends. Everything steers clear of the “Made-in” production- every item was created in fair, regulated work environments- and locally when possible.
Her selections also focus on the quality and innovation of high-end designer pieces without compromising customer’s budgets. Tara wants to give individuals the opportunity to make a statement while still being able to afford groceries. Only two items exceed $100 dollars and nothing is above $200.
Each designer she features has an influence on her own personal style, which means the current items found in the boutique are a pleasant teaser for Tara’s own line which is currently being created here (the boutique doubles as her workspace). Tara has plenty of other plans for the future of the shop, from working with installation artists to keeping new items pouring in.
A German father and Korean mother gave Tara a worldly childhood, living throughout Asia, Europe and North America. From Calgary to Malaysia, Tara has been grown up immersed in the world’s diverse culture of fashion and has chosen to reflect on her experiences visually in her shop.
