The Musical Stage Company’s annual UnCovered concert will kick off performances starting this Thursday.

For 2020, they’ve created a stunning virtual event with a phenomenal lineup of Canada’s top vocalists who’ve all selected songs of change, hope, reflection and inspiration by artists like Bob Marley, Carole King, Bob Dylan, Billie Holiday and Elton John.

Leading up to opening night, we’re connecting with some of the local legends on the bill who’ll be belting their hearts out to ask them how music has helped them get through the pandemic, how they are feeling about virtual performances and why they chose the song they did. We’re starting with Juno-Award winning R&B + soul singer, Divine Brown.

‘Uncovered: Notes from the Heart’ – when you hear that title, what does it mean to you? What first comes to mind?

A necessary shot of LOVE for all of humanity.

How has music helped you during the pandemic?

The mere act of being creative (writing music, practicing riffs etc) makes me feel even more connected to The Creator. I usually play music when I clean my house.

The winter ahead is making people anxious, how are you currently preparing for this time?

Honestly, I haven’t adopted the mindset of preparedness. I’m just making the effort to remain positive.

How has moving to online performances made you feel?

It just makes me more aware that we are living in a peculiarly significant moment in time in history.

Why did you choose the song you chose – what does it say to you right now?

Redemption Song is a song that is timeless. It was released in 1980, talking about a specific moment in time. But the songs’ sentiment is still relevant today.

Uncovered: Notes From The Heart is going to be an incredibly moving and heartwarming event; performances begin November 11. To learn more, take a peak a this beautiful behind-the-scenes video, and reserve your tickets today.
