Summer is upon us, and you know what that means: fresh, locally grown, organic produce! If you haven’t heard, Farmers’ markets are rad as hell. It can be hard to shop local when living downtown, so here is a handy roundup of markets for those of us in the downtown core looking to support our agricultural industries from within the concrete jungle.

John Street Farmers’ Market June 5th – October 30th
Market hours: Wendesday afternoons from 3:30-7pm
Hover around the windows at Much Music for a bit and then take a few steps north and buy some produce! Sounds like an awesome day off to me.

David Pecaut Square May 29th-October 16th
Thursdays, 8am-2:30pm
Indulge in some artisanal cheeses and check out a killer Mirvish Production.

Sorauren Farmers’ Market All year
Mondays, 3pm – 7pm

During the summer, the Sorauren Farmers’ Market swells with approx 20 vendors that offer everything from organic salad leaves to salted caramel chocolate. In the heart of the Roncy neighbourhood, this market attracts families; expect hundreds of children whizzing around a man strumming a banjo. FAMJAM! Go and eat dinner outside.

St Lawrence Farmers’ Market All year
Saturdays 5am-3pm
This market has everything from organic food to antiques. Come early, cause this baby is popular!

Nathan Phillips Square Farmers’ Market July 9th-August 27th
Wednesdays, 10am-2pm
Grab some organic fruits and veggies and visit the nearby public library!

MyMarket – City Place June 3rd-October 14th
Tuesdays, 3:30-7:30
Spend time wondering if condominiums are worth the investment while stocking up on healthy veggies for the week! MyMarket actually has several locations throughout the GTA, which you can find by clicking the above link!

Sick Kids Farmers’ Market
Tuesdays, 8am-2pm
Local fruits and vegetables, herbs, honey, cheese, pies, potatoes and soap are all on sale!

Aaaand, if you’re up for a little bike ride or are happy to travel East of Yonge, West of Bathurst, or North of Dupont (an outrageous prospect for some), here are five notable Farmers markets you should definitely take some time to check out!

Trinity Bellwoods Farmers’ Market July 8th – October 28th
Tuesdays, 3pm-7pm
Located in, you guessed it, Trinity Bellwoods! Have some snacks and pet some dogs.

Wychwood Barns Farmers’ Market
Saturdays, 8am-12pm
Buy your groceries and then check out Storytelling Toronto from 10am-12pm every Saturday! Wychwood Barns has everything!

Evergreen Brickworks May 3rd to November 1st
Saturdays, 8am-1pm
Although this location is not the easiest to access via public transit, the walk down there is pleasant and scenic and once you get there you’ll be free to peruse the wares of up to 85 different vendors!

Riverdale Park Farmers’ Market May 28th- October 15th
Tuesdays, 3pm-7pm
Located in the heart of Cabbagetown. Check out the above link for information about the Regent Park Farmers Market as well!

Dufferin Grove Famers’ Market All year round
Thursdays, 3pm-7pm
Located in a beautiful park near Dufferin and Bloor. Grab your healthy foods and local goods, and then head across the street to Dufferin Mall – really!

With selections like these (and more, this city is bursting with delicious markets!) what excuse do you really have to NOT buy local? See you at one or all of these! I’m going to wear a gingham dress, probably.
