Do you like good music, sweet soul music?
A legendary night from the late nineties, that paid homage to the swinging sixties, returns tonight at College Street’s Strangelove
It was a scene like no other, walking into the Lava Lounge on a Wednesday night in 1999 was like stepping onto Carnaby Street, London circa 1967. We all wore the duds, danced on the stage and made out behind the DJ booth. Mark Holmes, Bobby Guy, and the ubiquitous Mod Father were the leaders of the pack that held court in the back corner of the then very smokey red-lit dance floor. It was a sea of bobbed hair cuts and skinny ties; weekends were spent scowering Kensington for the ultimate mod mini and Mary Jane’s. We knocked back drinks, squabbled in the bathroom and talked about who was having sex with who. Of course, there’d always be a couple Vespa’s parked out front for added theatrics. Sweet music; sweet memories.
If you like to dance to sixties soul and pop then you need to join the revelry tonight.
