What does a typical Thursday look like for you, starting from when you wake up – to heading to bed?
A typical Thursday has so many variables but it most definitely always begins with toast lathered with raspberry jam and lovely cup of tea. A call to (In Crowd Partner) John is also a must to hash through our plan for the evening. Throw in some emailing, guest listing, phone calling and that brings me to the epic getting ready party I throw for myself before I take one of my 72 dresses out on the town with my 4” heels. I soon find myself prancing out to Church Street to hail a cab.
On an average Thursday I can expect to be twisting and shouting from 10:00 – 2:30 while playing the hits and rarities from the sixties everyone ought to know. We do something different every Thursday at Tattoo which means I could be working with guest hosts, guest DJ’s, bands or anything in between but I can definitely expect the festivities to unravel differently each and every night.
I’ll throw in a mandatory dance with my friend Andrew and it’s back to the stage to make sure the dance floor is wild and shaking until the lights come up.
What was your first job out of school?
Tricky but I would have to say that my first “real job” out of school was as a Marketing Event Coordinator for a Biotech Company – yes that’s not a misprint. I worked there and traveled almost weekly for three years before I quit the corporate life in search of something a bit more entrepreneurial.
What are the 3 skills you require most to do your job well?
Positive Attitude – I find it’s best to approach things with a smile. It’s so easy to get stressed out if something isn’t working. I like to approach everything with a positive attitude and I find that’s how I always accomplish what needs to get done.
Organization – On a weekly basis there is so much that goes on that you have to be seriously organized to keep on top of things. If you’re not organized it’s really easy to drown in a sea of emails!
Drive- I need to be constantly looking ahead and thinking of strategies and ventures for The In Crowd. I love being ambitious, taking risks, coming up with new creative ideas and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
What do you love most about your career?
I love the opportunity to work with amazing people. I have an amazing partner who is supportive and truly innovative and working with Pink Mafia has also been a phenomenal experience as well. Nightlife is a tough industry but there is a TON of hard working people who will answer your Blackberry pings and emails at some really insane hours of the morning.
Do you have any warnings?
Always work with people you love and trust.
If you could try a different career on for a year, what would it be?
Prima Ballerina or Mick Jagger’s girlfriend circa 1968.
