What does a typical Thursday look like for you, starting from when you wake up – to heading to bed?
COFFEE! I commute to work, so I like to start my mornings catching up with the radio and hearing what is happening around the world- I love morning news and of course the entertainment gossip! My days vary all the time, typically I start off with catching up on emails and tackling projects that need to be done (prioritize!). Some projects will be: updating the website, meeting with new photographers, stylists and clients, and catching up on other tasks. Lately, as we are launching our second edition, FANTASIA, I have been organizing the Montreal launch party and as well as the Toronto launch party. After work I usually (key word is usually here) go to the gym and Thursdays are normally event nights, so I’m typically out networking and doing PR for the publication. If it’s a quiet Thursday I catch up on personal projects.
What was your first job out of school?
Future Electronics, which pretty much employs most new graduates from the West Island. It was my first corporate work experience and where I also learned that you need to love what you do to succeed. My social skills were a bit undervalued there!
What are the 3 skills you require most to do your job well?
Organization, a smile and lots of energy! It helps a lot to be organized so that I am on top of everything. I meet a lot of new people all the time and a smile is always the best thing anyone can be greeted with. I am naturally energetic and always on the go. Sometimes my days can easily be 17 hours so having lots of energy helps!
What do you love most about your career?
All of the interesting people that I have gotten to meet. I have met many famous photographers, fashion designers and people in the industry. I love that my job allows me to always do something different, whether I am meeting a new photographer, covering industry events or planning events for our publication; I’m always doing something different!
Do you have any warnings?
It’s time to move on when you dread waking up during the week or when Sunday comes along and your stomach turns thinking about Monday.
If you could try a different career on for a year, what would it be?
I would be an Event Producer. I thoroughly enjoy producing events; really any type of event but I love working with big budgets (don’t we all?!) One of my goals is to one day be a fashion show producer for high end fashion designers.
