Inspired by the Governor General of Canada, Dare2Give is a beautiful campaign that aims to make our country a better place. Research tells us that one of the main reasons people decide to give is simply because someone asked. What if we all challenged someone we know, or dared them, to donate (time or finances) along with us? The impact would be HUGE! Talk about doubling your giving impact! We love this campaign and the idea of doing something helpful for our community AND being able to double our impact by daring our pals to do the same!

Here are my dares:

My mom works for a bank as a programmer but has been dreaming of starting a small side business as a baker, which is why I have not one, but TWO dares for her! I dare my multi-tasking mama to register her business in 2015, and to figure out how she can use her mad skillz in the kitchen to help those in need, or maybe even work with a food bank directly? I will obviously be more than happy to lend a hand by taste testing EVERYTHING.

My husband is probably the most compassionate and thoughtful person I know; he goes out of his way to help friends and strangers alike. Case and point, he’s been known to make meals and smoothies for some of the homeless people in our Church-Wellesley community. Mark doesn’t need to be dared to do good, it’s engrained in his character, but I’m going to try anyway! I’ve been wanting to volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters for a couple years now, and have decided to go for it in the new year. I’m daring Mark to volunteer with me because there are lots of boys who will benefit from his mentorship.

I’ve been super inspired by all the amazing things that my BFF Dustin has been doing in the community as his drag persona, Daytona Bitch. Last year, Daytona raised over $1500 for Casey House, a specialty HIV/AIDS hospital with community programming that includes home care and outreach. Daytona has been talking about starting up another fundraising effort, helping to get Toronto homeless LGBQT youth off the streets. So, I am daring Daytona to get ‘er started in the next month, before the temperature drops even further. I will happily make a financial contribution to the campaign and help get the word out.
