Here at She Does the City, we love the theatre. We especially love thought-provoking performances that move us and showcase strong, local female talent. That’s why we are so pumped to have partnered with Tarragon Theatre for this contest. (In fact, we featured Tarragon Theatre’s play The Millennial Malcontent in not one but TWO posts in the past month. Here and here. That’s how pumped we are.)

Millenium Malcontent, Tarragon Theatre

The Millennial Malcontent is a raucous exploration of social posing, sexual frankness and emotional mindfields. Written by Governor General’s Award-winning playwright Erin Shields, with direction from Tarragon’s Theatre’s own Peter Hinton, it is a fierce meditation on the contemporary, hipster-infused Generation Y. Millennial Malcontent premiered at Tarragon Theatre on February 28th and runs until April 9.

Back by popular demand, Rebecca Northan’s hit show Blind Date has been praised by critics from The New York Times to The Globe and Mail. When Mimi’s date for the evening fails to show up, she turns to the audience for someone brave enough to answer Love’s call. What happens next is completely unscripted, unpredictable and totally entertaining.

MARINE LIFE

Save the world or save yourself? Tree-hugging activist Sylvia is saving the world from micro-plastics in our water. But new love and Mariachi musical madness interrupt our ecological heroine. When the rains come and the flood rises, what wild intimacies and mad manipulations will she stoop to in the name of love?

MR. SHI AND HIS LOVER
Nov 7 – Dec 17, 2017

An enigmatic contemporary opera (with original music) about the delusion of love, Mr. Shi and His Lover chronicles the real-life affair of a French Diplomat in China who falls in love with a male opera performer he believes to be a woman.

HAMLET
Jan 2 – Feb 18, 2018

Bet you’ve never seen anything like it: Shakespeare’s best-known tragedy is reimagined through the powerful lens of rock and roll.
