Old-timey DIY domestic arts like canning and jam making are back in a big way, but when temperatures drop, my thoughts turn to woollier pursuits. Knitting your own winter wear is a satisfying way to channel your inner granny, and for those of us who can’t distinguish their purls from their pearls, Espace Tricot is the perfect place to start. Espace Tricot is a new knitting shop in NDG’s Monkland Village that carries a wide selection of yarns and fibers, accessories, books, magazines and patterns. They also offer a range of classes designed to get new knitters & crocheters going, and to help more advanced enthusiasts hone their skills. Complete beginners can start with Tricot 101, three 2-hour sessions that will have you knitting and purling in no time! There are classes on socks, mitts and colour work for more experienced knitters, and there are classes for kids, too! Register online. You can also join them at their drop-in Knit Nights, every Tuesday beginning at 18:00.
