I bet you never thought that a career in fashion could have you designing cool rugs. Maybe Kirsten Korhani, creative director of Korhani Home’s didn’t know either, but as it turns out, it’s a very similar skill set, which is perhaps why Korhani has now become a regular on the LGFW catwalk. Kirsten’s passion for pattern and texture, combined with her vibrant imagination, has injected a fresh perspective into traditional home decor. And this video is proof. Not sure what to wear to your NYE party? Maybe a rug? Or if that’s too weird (definitely) then start thinking about what you love in fashion the next time you choose a carpet for your living room. Korhani has lots of gorgeous designs…that we’d likely wear if it came on a dress.

What does a typical Thursday look like for you, starting from when you wake up – to heading to bed?

The beauty of my job means no two days are alike and I start every morning with a café latte to get me going.

I’m excited to get to the office early in the morning to connect with my team in Europe (because of the time difference) to brainstorm upcoming fashion trends in home décor.

While my design team are like miracle workers, getting some of the most gorgeous samples from all over the world, I’m pulling inspiration from the runway to home shows all over the world to my own travels to come up with a range of designs and colours to work with. Sometimes it’s like I need to step into a time machine because I need to plan for seasons as far as 2 years in advance.

I’m always working on various projects throughout the day and if I’m lucky I have time to stop and have a salad with a Diet Coke for lunch.

My evenings are a time to unwind and it’s important to me that I spend them with my family.  We enjoy cooking dinner together (we’re pasta lovers) and talk about our day.

What was your first job out of school?

When I finished school, I worked at the CPD Dusseldorf Fair, an international fashion tradeshow in Germany.  This helped me network with the right people and build relationships with different brands to start my own fashion agency.

What are the 3 skills you require most to do your job well?

Flexibility, creativity, and working well under pressure.

What do you love most about your career?

It changes with the season, and my days are all different.  Some days I work long hours to meet crucial deadlines, while other days I can take my time and relax.

Do you have any warnings?

If you don’t constantly have new ideas to reinvent what you do, then this isn’t a career path to consider.

If you could try a different career on for a year, what would it be?

I’d be a millionaire matchmaker!

Suddenly we are browsing rugs online. This is a new hobby!
