Now in its second year, Rockin’ out for Racks, is an edgy fundraiser “whipped up” by two friends with the goal of raising money for the Toronto Weekend to End Breast Cancer, which is a two-day 60K walk held on September 6th and 7th. All proceeds go towards breast cancer research, education, and treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Meredith Marr, one half of the Rockin’ out for Racks team, is doing the walk for her mom who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994 and was in remission a year later. It was a difficult time, but one that tightly bonded her family together. In 2003 her mom even took part in the 60K walk while proudly rockin’ her pink ‘survivor’ tee. She raised $20,000 all on her own, and as Meredith’s personal mission, she’s decided to match the total in honour of her brave journey.

Having both been touched by the disease Meredith and Lisa began taking part in the fundraising scene. It wasn’t long before they were bored with the lavish and often expensive parties, and decided to branch out on their own, to raise “funds & FUN.” This is how they came up with Rockin’ out for Racks as a way to incorporate all – “guys & gals, young’uns & wrinklies, hipsters & flipsters.”

So what can you expect at the party? $10 at the door gets you complete SATISFACTION, along with great tunes, booze, cupcakes, and ‘boobie’ prizes for all guests.
