Whether it’s back to school or back to work, something about the crisp fall air just makes you want to DO something. If autumn is rolling around without anything new on the horizon, and you feel your creative juices a-flowin’, we suggest you hightail it to picturesque Prince Edward County and shack up at Spark Box Studio.

From an amazing culinary scene to a cool community vibe, PEC, about three hours east of Toronto, has long been one of our favourite country respites. It’s the perfect place to gather thoughts and inspiration, which also makes it the perfect place for Spark Box Studio.

Founded by super-cool Queen’s University fine arts grads Chrissy Poitras and Kyle Topping, the two practicing artists wanted to create a place where fellow creators could cultivate their craft in an affordable way. Spark Box offers Residency Programs, where artists can apply to stay in a beautiful century home and create. Whether it’s for a weekend or two months, you can hole up and dig in to a project that’s been brewing, with your own dedicated studio space.

Spark Box also offers Youth Programs, open studios, workshops and lessons, and their website offers great resources on the business of being an artist. Head on over to see what previous residents have created, and get some solid advice.
