We LOVE bleach crafts!!! They’re super easy and give an amazing effect. They’re also really inexpensive as most of the items might be things that you already have at home (or that you can pick up from your local dollar store). These crafts can be done indoors or outdoors but I would suggest that you do them outdoors if possible – the bleach will smell for HOURS/days afterwards!!! Otherwise be sure to do it in a room where you can open the windows.

We also recommend doing bleach crafts on clothing that you already own, or something cheap that you’re not worried about messing up. It can take practice to figure out exactly what you want your leggings to look like, and more expensive fabrics might not work as well as we found out! We ended up extremely happy with the results; here’s how to do it:

galaxy leggings supplies

Supplies:

  • One Pair of black leggings (ours were from American Apparel)
  • Bleach
  • Spray bottle (you can even re-use an old cleaning spray bottle for this)
  • Large garbage bag/newspaper/table cloth to lay down on the ground
  • White fabric or acrylic paint
  • Old toothbrush

Steps:

  1. Lay a piece of protection onto the ground (we used a tablecloth)
  2. Place your leggings down flat overtop of the tablecloth
  3. Twist a few areas of the leggings (the top works well)
  4. Spray the leggings with bleach! Spray over top of the twists and then randomly in other places, it works well if you play with how close/far away you get with the bleach. If you go close up you’ll get an intense spot, and if you move farther away you’ll get more of a small spotted effect.
  5. Once you’re happy with what you have, turn them over (don’t worry about it being dry at this point) and do the same thing
  6. Now add some white paint. You can get a nice effect by just splattering the paint with the toothbrush.
  7. Hang in the bathroom with the fan on overnight (or until they dry)
  8. Wash to get bleach smell out
  9. Wear them!!
