If you’ve used the Delaware entrance at Ossington station over the past few weeks, you’ve probably noticed that the building just beside it has been teasing passersby with glimpses of Dr. Seuss-inspired cakes peeking out from behind papered windows. The gradual exposure has culminated in the official opening of Bakerbots Baking, a custom cake design shop during the week, and walk-in bakery on the weekends.
Aside from cartoonishly beautiful cakes, OCAD / French Institute NYC graduate Rosanne serves up creative cupcakes, butter tarts, cookies, petit French Macarons, and banana pudding trifle. She also pairs her cookies with Ed’s Real Scoop ice cream in sandwich combos like burnt marshmallow with ginger and captain peanut with chocolate peanut butter fudge. Tempted yet?
Rosanne doesn’t make any vegan, gluten or nut free treats, (the macarons require almond flour which, when opened, flies all round the shop) but she does keep a stock of Sweets from the Earth goodies for the specialty diets among us. As for Rosanne’s own handcrafted creations, it sort of feels like it would be a shame to bite into such beautiful, tiny works of art. Alas, that doesn’t stop me planning an ice cream sandwich bender. Bring on summer!
