book review by Lauren Valentine
WARNING: After reading this book you may be overcome with urges to get several badass tattoos, buy a Bettie Page wig, and shake your booty to classic rock at the Zanzibar this Saturday night.

In A Nutshell: Diablo Cody is a self-proclaimed nerd with a Catholic upbringing who, on a whim, tosses aside her office job for 10 inch heels and leopard print thongs. From being a peep show "Doll" at Sex World to hanging upside down on the pole at Big Pink she exposes the seedy underworld of stripping from a myriad of perspectives (and all while keeping a steady boyfriend on the side).

What Makes It Awesome: Some of the realities of stripping documented in Candy Girl are downright depressing, but Cody’s hilarious antidotes keep it light. What really makes the book is the fact Cody applies so much gusto and pizazz to her career that you can’t resist turning the page to see what she’ll try next – after all, how many strippers have you seen that throw in drop kicks during the middle of their on stage sets?

One of Many Amusing Quotes: "Meet Bonbon!" the DJ boomed over the music. "It says here that her hobbies are PARTYING and GIVING HEAD! Her favorite sexual position is ALL OF THEM!"

You’ll Like This Book if you Like: Juno, Suicide Girls, and long walks on the wild side (or at least reading about them).

Torontonian Observation: Makes me appreciate that we live in a country where women can get fully naked while alcohol is being served. O Canada!
