We’ve been lucky to have Maria Jose Bouey tell her story on SDTC. Her experiences with kidney failure and the good she makes out of a challenging situation continue to inspire us.

No surprise, then, that she’s vice-president of Ostomy Toronto, a service-based organization that provides emotional support, help and education to patients with ostomies, their caregivers and families, and the general public. Battling the world of healthcare bureaucracy in addition to dealing with illness or surgery can be an incredible strain, and that’s what makes organizations like Ostomy Toronto so important.

To help spread awareness, they’re hosting Say Cheese! on Sept. 27th, a night celebrating World Ostomy Day and its theme, “Let’s Be Heard.” The night will feature great food care of Obika Mozzarella Bar, and great jazz to accompany it. Tickets are $30, and all proceeds will go to Ostomy Toronto.
