The works of celebrated pioneer of Ghanaian photography, James Barnor, are coming to Toronto as part of Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival. James Barnor: Ever Young features portraits spanning the 1950s-70s set in Ghana & London. His photos depict societies undergoing major shifts – Ghana moving toward independence from colonial rule, and London becoming a cosmopolitan, multicultural city in the swinging 60s.

Barnor captured the portraits of a diverse swath of people: Muhammad Ali, college professors, newlyweds, heads of state, yoga students, dignitaries and performance artists. His work depicts “the changing representation of blackness, desire, and beauty across time and space.”

James Barnor: Ever Young is an Autograph ABP touring exhibition curated by Renée Mussai. Presented by Black Artists’ Network in Dialogue (BAND), in partnership with Autograph ABP. You can catch the exhibit at BAND Gallery and Cultural Centre (1 Lansdowne Ave. 2nd floor) from April 28 to May 29.
