Rae Spoon, Fall Horsie and Goose @ Green Room
The Canadian Prairie’s Rae Spoon, after conquering the world of country music as one of the genre’s few transgendered singers, is now foraying into the indie rock/experimental scene. Check out what he’s been up to, as he joins Halifax’s Fall Horsie and local acts Goose this Wednesday at Green Room.
8pm. Green Room – 5386 St Laurent.
Vintage To Go @ Red Bird Studios
Once again, Red Bird Studios opens their doors for a night of shopping, featuring women’s summer dresses, cotton shorts, skirts and t-shirts; belts, purses and other accessories. Fabric will be on offer if you’re feeling inspired, and as well as men’s shoes, so bring the beau!
7pm – 11pm. Red Bird Studios – 135 Van Horne.
San Fernando @ SAT
Nightlife Magazine’s annual party returns with San Fernando, celebrating the launch of Nightlife Noise Compilation 5. Featuring DJs CFCF (one of my personal faves), Roux Soundsystem & Night Trackin’, a live set by Hovatron, a burlesque performance from Glam Gam Productions and visuals by VJ Brille Brille. Super cheap drink specials ‘til 7pm.
6pm – 2am. SAT – 1195 St Laurent.
Hooligans @ Velvet
Three Monkeys and What’s Really Good present Hooligans, a World Cup event at Velvet Speakeasy, featuring sets from Hatchmatik, Seb Diamond and Mike Casali. This is the first in a series of events supporting GOAL, a charity soccer tournament raising money and awareness for Head & Heads, an organization that provides medical, legal and social services to Montreal youth.
10pm. Velvet – 420 St Gabriel.
Matinee Rock @ Green Room
What beats loafing and lollygagging on a lazy Saturday afternoon with great local bands and delicious summertime bevvys? Nothing. Green Room will provide the socially acceptable daytime drinks (Mimosas and Caesars, natch) and performances (from Zardozians, Brabazons and Dirty Wedding); you provide the toonies (cover is $4 for those with exact change, $5 for everyone else).
2pm –6pm. Green Room – 5386 St Laurent.
