I have a confession. Until Saturday, I had never been to a Canucks game. Sure, I saw a Victoria Salsa match when I was little ($10 to the person who knows that team). But since then I’ve held off from watching spectator sports live. You’re probably asking yourself: what kind of Vancouverite is she? I’m the kind that generally prefers to spend my money on clothes and alcohol.

That’s why I was thrilled when I was contacted by Metropolis at Metrotown to be a guest blogger for the Canucks vs Red Wings game. Not only did I get free tickets to a sweet game, I got to watch it from an executive box suite. Most importantly, I finally got to experience a pro hockey game.

The Metropolis Hot Seats contest allows ordinary people to live the high life by offering suite tickets to games and concerts. It’s super easy to enter, and you get to bring a friend. Plus, free food. Pretty much all of the elements I look for in a good time.

The box had it’s own private, non-disgusting bathroom, leather couches, and a sweet view. The ten lucky winners plus Sarah and I mingled and munched as we waited for the big game to start. The audience was whipped into a frenzy as the lights went down and the anthems were sung. The current top two teams in the league are guaranteed to put on a show, right?

I was on the edge of my seat the whole game, and nearly lost it when they went into overtime. I don’t deal well with that anxiety when I’m watching games on tv, much less when I’m actually there. The Canucks ended up losing in the shootout, but everyone agreed that the teams both deserved congratulations. Except, maybe, the creator of the freshly punched hole in the wall at the arena. Hockey rage much?

What can I say? It was totally awesome, and has me itching to go again. I finally feel like a true Vancouverite.
