If you’re feeling sort of ‘meh’ about your neighborhood and think you need to head elsewhere for a good time, you may want to reconsider. If you’re looking for a really fun night out, check out Pop-up Tours, a curated, behind-the-scenes look at what’s going on in your own neighbourhood.

“I started the tour because I was writing a local e-newsletter in which I interviewed local businesses and discovered a lot of great, local, independent businesses I wanted to learn more about,” says Pop-up Tours founder, Jodi Crawford. “This, combined with looking for something to do besides the typical dinner/drinks with friends, led me to combine the local businesses with an experiential night out to create Pop-Up Tours.”

The tours span six major areas of interest: house & home, art & artisans, fashion & beauty, food & drink, parent & baby and health & wellness. “I try to stick with a bit of a theme with the tours but try to go with three spots that are relatively close together so there’s not a lot of time spent walking. And I include at least one stop that will provide food and/or drinks.”

Her tour (coming up this March) begins at Centauri Arts, where you’ll discover your inner author. This will be followed by a tea tasting (with food pairing) at the unique Archtop Cafe. Finally, you’ll end the evening at Bloom Restaurant, learning how to mix Pisco Sour and Caipirinha cocktails, and enjoy them with finger foods.

“We’ve had couples attend, and people of all ages, but we tend to see women in their thirties and forties the most,” notes Crawford. “But I would really like curate tours specifically for groups, so I want to make it clear that it’s open to, and enjoyed by, adults of all ages and inclinations.”
