Much Music’s number one show at present – Pretty Little Liars – has been compared to a teenage Desperate Housewives meets I Know What You Did Last Summer. Sounds pretty amazing to me…but what exactly is underneath all the hype?

Based on the series of novels by Sara Shepard, the show follows the exploits of four female protagonists – Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily, who run the scene at Rosewood High School. However, they aren’t just your typical queen Bees with their minds solely on hair and boys. They find themselves in the middle of a disturbing mystery when their friend, Alison, disappears one day. Gone for a year, the girls begin receiving incessant texts from an unknown number containing secrets that only Alison knew. The texts are signed off as simply “A”. The mystery texter also threatens to spill their clandestine business with others. The secrets from “A” come up everywhere – in fortune cookies, on tarot cards at homecoming, in e-mails … the girls suspect they are from Allison, until her body is discovered buried in her former backyard. Sub plots involving students making out with teachers, rich girls making out with towel boys, and popular girls making out with outsider rocker chicks are thrown into the mix as the fearless foursome go about their usual high school lives, trying to keep a poker face about their shady and unwanted dealings with A.

If you are a fan of Gossip Girl, or The OC, or simply watching cute girls make out with other cute girls, you will be hooked on this shit like David Hasselhoff was hooked on a feeling.
